The characters range from average to completely two-dimensional, and there's no deep, underlying message to the plot. People like homestuck because of the complexity of the plot. The plot is absolutely not nonsense, and is very well put-together. Hussie himself said that it was like a story that is also a puzzle. The fact that you consider it to be nonsense just suggests that you can't keep track of all the moving parts.
