They go on exactly one combat mission in the entire series. In reality, it's about playing the trumpet and running a speakeasy. Still, it's not terrible. Cute girls do cute things, without being obnoxiously sugoi kawaii desu about it. Also it's heavily implied that mankind is going to go extinct in a generation and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
