Puts me in mind of some of the stuff m00t wrote about anonymity - people tend to sculpt their behaviour more to "fit in" when they have an identity to protect. An anon has no identity and so they're willing to try stuff that they otherwise wouldn't do elsewhere for fear of getting hurt (eg, expressing views they think people won't agree with, or asking questions they might suspect are stupid).
