[_] >># Anon 3205692 http://archive.4plebs.org/f/thread/32054 66/#3205681 Full text ">># Lurk enough and you'll see someone say /f/ is /f/orgotten. many times when holiday themes and april fools pranks are added to 4chan /f/ is neglected. >># (You) I have nothing more than speculation. flash is being discontinued and with it likely browser support for such things. I know people use standalone flash players but how would this effect the already dismal userbase of /f/ and would 4chan even continue to support swf? another thing to consider, how much new content is even created anymore? lastly, hiroshima likely wants to make money and /f/ isn't exactly bringing in the users. https://www.google.com/search?q=flash+di scontinued&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8" Anyway I wanted to say that you should cite a specific source next time. Adobe is not dropping support of flash anytime soon, but they are encouraging other standards. Flash has been around 21 years and it will take a very long time for them to totally remove support. https://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/20 15/11/flash-html5-and-open-web-standards. html?scid=social_20151201_55826586&adbid= 671559505906282496&adbpl=tw&adbpr=63786611 >Moving forward, Adobe is committed to working with industry partners, as we have with Microsoft and Google, to help ensure the ongoing compatibility and security of Flash content. In that spirit, today we are announcing that we are working together with Facebook to help ensure Flash gaming content on Facebook continues to run reliably and securely. As part of this cooperation, Facebook will report security information that helps Adobe improve the Flash Player.
>> [_] Anon 3205699 Flash has a huge back catalogue and is still widely used to animate and make games, Flash wrappers for appstores will continue to exist. As for the plugin Apple had a jihad against flash and Google has its own android app store so there's a reason mobile phone companies are such a dick about flash. Why pay for a game you can get for free online? the Linux plugin was recently resurrected and it will be developed for windows until the bitter end https://wiki.winehq.org/ARM so theres that Moore's law prophecies we will be able to run old flash plugins with an emulator so it will always be useable
>> [_] Anon 3205702 >># >Lurk enough and you'll see someone say /f/ is /f/orgotten. http://eye.swfchan.net/search.asp?q=/f/o rgotten >10 results. I-I will lurk harder this year, I p-promise >many times when holiday themes and april fools pranks are added to 4chan /f/ is neglected. and I'm sure many other boards are as well >how much new content is even created anymore? as much as /wsg/ and /webm/ or just look at http://swfchan.com/new.shtml now a lot of those flashes are not dircetly from 4chan but there are a lot of new flashes posted on daily basis many of them are simple loops but I like loops more than some cancerous youtuberips >hiroshima likely wants to make money and /f/ isn't exactly bringing in the users. if chinamoot would want to bring more people to 4chan through /f/, he would put a goddamn mod in here long ago so this board would get some standarts and force people to make decent flashes made in an actual flash I treat /f/ as a haven, and influx of yet another batch of newfags without adding mods will just shit this place more than it already is
>> [_] Anon 3205704 It's okay guys I'll just keep posting the same 5 flashes until I die. /f/ aint goin nowhere
>> [_] Anon 3205707 >># Which ones do you post?

>> [_] Anon 3205713 >># >a lot of new flashes posted on daily basis The swf format has some characteristics that make it desirable. vector graphics, programability and self contained and platform independant. Just disable hyperlinks and you seal up the security risk. Unity, java and html5 cant compete with it as they have bigger security risks and aren't always self contained. plus they cant be copied and pasted as easily >>a rare few flashes aren't self contained but its mostly menus and layout thingy's
>> [_] Anon 3205714 >># would be nice of the flash had a hidden content that you had to right click play
>> [_] Faggot (¬‿¬) 3205738 >># If /f/ dies, where else am I to find my daily dose of hat, lolicatgirls, and green Piccolo dick? /F/ IS MA HOME, I AIN'T GOT NO WHERE TO GO PA
>> [_] Anon 3205740 Last I heard, Adobe Animate can export in HTML5, though I don't know if those files keep the same properties as .swf files. Still, seems like Adobe's at least trying, even if it's only halfhearted. I just don't want to see loops go. .swf files really are the best format for those things.
>> [_] Anon 3205743 Can we make /f/ great again?
>> [_] Anon 3205801 flash, can never die, it can only be forgotten. but I remember.
>> [_] Anon 3205817 /f/ is such a casual, quiet little place at this point. It appeals to a smaller userbase but it's got it's own community as a result. Flash itself might die out for most people but it'll likely be immortalized through /f/, swfchan, and other flash boards. I'm sure content creators will still continue to pump out flash here and there and newfags will help too. It'll take some time for flash to die out completely.

[_] Fighting the scourge of flash -> video -> flash conversions Anon 2867017 someone uploaded an flv of this earlier. (they named it Flash.swf) If you have it, this is the canonical name and the actual flash file.
>> [_] Anon 2867040 As long as ZONE lives, or at least as long as ppl. still use /f/ regularly, I don't think flash's dead. And isn't it way more flexible than HTML5?
>> [_] Anon 2867044 >># it can do more stuff, and it can be balled up into a single file. Also, there's a single reference implementation. (even if it's proprietary) The issue with flash right now is that you can get RCE thanks to a bug, so every browser is disabling it.

[_] Anon 2865589 Lemme poop a little bit out for you. Marked for deletion (old).
>> [_] Anon 2865648 >># So how much longer before this board is either removed or becomes /html5/? My bet is when Zone first makes the conversion.
>> [_] Anon 2865652 >># Lel didn't know HSR was still around, will always love those guys. Is something happening to flash I don't know about? HTML5 is NOT a replacement for flash, flash does tons of stuff HTML5 cannot do. Flash was created to do a lot of what HTML5 does, but Flash became something over the years that HTML5 is just a subset of.
>> [_] Anon 2865656 >># Can you go into more detail for a retard like me that doesn't understand much of this stuff? What exactly does does Flash do that html5 can't?
>> [_] Anon 2865659 >># nothing he is dumb
>> [_] Anon 2865660 >># Flash is supported by basically every browser in the world. HTML5 is not.
>> [_] Anon 2865663 >># http://code.tutsplus.com/articles/10-fla sh-things-you-cant-do-with-html5--active- 6066 7 is the biggest one, for me as a developer at least. When you create content in flash, you can morph the exact same project from a browser game to a desktop game fairly simplely. Flash handles certain things like shaders and caching differently in AIR (their desktop environment) vs a flash player in a browser, but you wouldn't have to rewrite an entire project. To my understanding HTML5 really isn't set up to handle games at all, in fact. Technically you can, but why would you.... Basically Flash just does everything under the sun (except 3D content) really well, and HTML5 is just designed to make webpages more dynamic. I'm not saying 5 is bad, its very lightweight and easy to use, but it's not used for the same thing Flash is.
>> [_] Anon 2865737 >># >># >># >># Shumway. http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/
>> [_] Anon 2865738 >># A lot of this outdated, given that its 5 years old, and only really 7 holds true anymore (OTOH, Desktop authoring is pretty much dead). Google Hangouts is web conferencing over HTML5. The only thing Flash has over HTML5 now is the authoring tools
