I know right.... It's not an apple, and it sure as hell doesn't come from a pine... In fact, some
countries use their equivalent of the word "pineapple" to describe the pinecone.

That's where the name came from. Pinecones were originally called pineapples, and when europeans
found Ananas, they called them pineapples because the looked similar to pinecones.
