Actually this video is a metaphor for sexuality. They start off innocent playing around in a
pool. The guy tries to kiss her, but she's afraid of what it may lead to. When she jumps in the
pool, it's actually metaphoric for the guy fingering her and the girl being confused/afraid. Upon
seeing the "monsters", the guy then pentrates her. She wants to escape this mentally. When she
escapes to the other side, her eyes are blown out which is symbolic of her virginity being lost,
thus losing her innocence. She has now entered the world of broken innocence.

And that's why I hate "art" not proper art but the constant usage of symbolism in obscure ways.
It's neat but if the point is to convey something, you shouldn't hide under symbolism that only
other "art" people will understand. Or if you do, do give it the general public. Now this
animation is really good and I don't begrudge it for it's use of symbolism, since it can stand as
an interesting piece of animation on it's own. I mostly hate still art that does this, and
primarily abstracts. And my hatred for them taints my view of almost any "art" piece I see.

Exactly. And this is why I switched from being an Art major. I got sick of the bullshit

Ask him about Fahrenheit 451 and what it is about. If he talks about censorship, tell him he is
  wrong.
The book is actually about the fact the author thought TV sucked. Seriously. People have tried to
argue to his face about what his book is about, but he maintains he wrote it and it is about the
  fact he hated television.
Another good example is the Robert Frost poem about stopping in the woods on a snowy evening.
Lotta people interpret it as the narrator contemplating suicide. I even had a teacher who claimed
that. Not true at all, on the basis of the opinion of the Robert Frost expert... Robert Frost.
Frost has another poem that is a good example of this kind of thing, the two roads leading into
  the woods one.

If art is so objective, then there is no value in studying it because nothing real can be said
  about it.
  Alternately
Who are you to think you know more than the creator of the piece? Who are you to even think you
can know if or what they meant beyond what is presented? How could someone be so presumptuous.
  Or
  You speak of applicability yet say allegory. You don't even know what you mean by your own words;
how can you know what the author means by his?

>> [_] Anonymous 03/03/12(Sat)05:39 No.1630165

I does not matter what the author claims a piece of art is about. It's how the spectator
interprets the art what really matters. Art can is an unique experience and all those who claims
they know all about art and how it should be received can go to hell.

Literary analysis is, more often than not, based upon the idea that the writer's opinion on the
work's meaning is no more significant than anyone else's. The question isn't about what the
writer intended; it's about what the work means to the reader.

I mean, if the work a perfect representation of the intentions of the writer, then you wouldn't
  NEED to analyze anything.

Also, I need to stop hanging out with Liberal Arts majors.

Just as you can go for a simple walk, and take whatever precautions there may be taken, you never
know if you'll end up being run over by a car or joining an awesome party being held on a nearby
  plaza.

It's the same in this video. No matter what precautions you take, you never know if an innocent
breaking-and-entering pool party will end up with you getting wet and drunk, or if you end up

  >I got sick of the bullshit pretentious hipsters analyzing old art work as if the creator had

I think most of that symbolism works on a subconscious level so you do not have to "see" it for
your brain to make the connection. Take the analysis of full metal jacket:
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LqGu3oYj54
I think our brain picks lots of those up and produces certain "feelings" which make the film
great. Same goes with hidden sexual meanings in lots of works of art. Someone in Art may have to
understand those concepts to use them but the effect should be there without having to be told.

Artistic study is, in itself, not pretentious. I did go to art school and will say, yes, most
critiques and galleries are artists and peers stroking each others ego's with how smart they can
be. When I go with my friends, though, I can look at paintings, and have a discussion with any
half intelligent person about it without losing them unless I intend to. Perhaps >>1630088
had a very detailed breakdown, but i don't think there is a question that there's some kind of

People, sometimes the artist isn't completely conscious of what he's doing. Actually, that's most
  of the time.

True art is always deliberate up to a point. Joyce wrote Ulysses with the intent of conveying an
infinite number of messages. Ipso facto, he couldn't know about all of them.

So people who go "the artist never meant that" are ignorant fucks.

Now, back to my ivory tower.

  >Ipso facto
Stop using crap phrases that less than 1% of the population knows about. A good writer/speaker
uses words that are as simple as possible so that they can communicate with as wide audience as
  possible.

In this case it would have been better to write "By definition" instead of using "Ipso facto" to
try and sound smart or well educated.
