I can ron to win a hand but when I go to do that a popup opens that says "no multiplier." If I
close that box, I just go back to being asked if I want to ron. Is it complaining about yaku?

you have a zero point hand. You are not allowed to Ron or tsumo on a zero point hand. hands like
no 1,9,dragons, or winds are simple 1 point hands. all pons (3 of a kind or 4 of a kind) is a
good 2 point hand. or just staying concealed and not calling pon or chii grants you one point or
lets you call riichi for one point
