No, no. I am very well aware that 4chan is moot's child, but usually the powers-that-be of any
site tend to force change for a long-enough trial period.
Moot seems to know not to change user experience, but to enhance it, so if something works, you
see it right away and vice-versa.

Cheers for adding two MiB to the files size limit, however would you please consider increasing
it to 16 MiB?
16 MiB sounds a lot, however it isn't too bad.
+ /f/ has so few files uploaded each day, increasing the files size to 16 MiB won't increase the
bandwidth requirement that much. Especially since CloudFlare is used.
+ Most files posted will still be below 10 MiB.
+ 16 MiB ensures that all desired flashes can be posted, even those very few that actually need
the extra space.
10 MiB is an improvement but it should have happened a long time ago. To keep up with the times
/f/ needs to increase its file size limit. 16 will be enough for years to come.

This is how it works:
+ You upload a 16 MiB swf file named "bla.swf" to 4chan, it is placed on their server.
+ The 4chan domain points to CloudFlare's name servers (DNS).
+ When someone visits 4chan their browser looks up the IP that the domain points to. They
commonly ask their ISP DNS server about this.
+ CloudFlare (the name server) has told the ISP DNS server that the domain name does not go to
the actual 4chan server, it goes to a CloudFlare server that is nearby the ISP DNS.
+ The visitor does not go to the 4chan server when he visits the site, he goes to a CloudFlare
server. The visitor asks CloudFlare for "bla.swf".

[_]MackanZoor!///SWFAntsNo.169514906/09/12(Sat)16:37

+ CloudFlare sends a very small message to 4chan's server, asking "when was bla.swf last modified
and how many bytes is it?". The 4chan server then replies a date and file size (small message).
+ If CloudFlare doesn't have "bla.swf" it downloads the file from the 4chan server, and begin
streaming the file to the visitor after it has started to receive the file.
+ After Cloudflare has received the file it is stored on their server.
+ If CloudFlare already had the file on their server the file is sent immediately to the visitor
requesting "bla.swf". The 4chan server doesn't have to send "bla.swf" to anyone.
+ If "bla.swf" on CloudFlare has a different size or a different date than "bla.swf" on the 4chan
server it will get a new copy of "bla.swf" from 4chan before sending it to the visitor.

No.1695151
+ CloudFlare saves (caches) files depending on how often they are requested and on how often they
are changed. They have a minimum time that must pass between each small message it sends to 4chan
(for example if "bla.swf" is requested 1000 times in 10 seconds pehaps only one single small
message is sent to 4chan to check if the file has the same size/date).
That's how CloudFlare saves the 4chan server from using too much bandwidth, connections, CPU, RAM
and HDD.
That's how caching makes it eaiser for big files to be posted.
Btw this reminds me of another request: Please increase how much text each reply may contain on
/f/. Double it, at least. It's silly to have to split a reply like this, happens all the time. It
would also be sweet if you could reduce the time needed to wait between posts, could easily be
cut in half without increasing spam on /f/ or whatever reason its there in the first place.

That sounds like a serious bug! Did you get new captchas after a few incorrect tries? Could you
do me a favor and try to post in this old thread and see if it works: http://swfchan.org/977/
Just type "banana" in the textfield so I know it's you. And then if it doesn't work could you
post in this thread and mention the text you see in the latest image (don't try to solve that
last image because then it might be overwritten with a new one). I'd appreciate it, if there is a
bug I need to try and fix it.

>nobody is going to make a bit coin account
To be honest I never really expected anyone to bother making a BTC account but since it works
great for 420chan (they receive large donations all the time through Bitcoin) I thought that it
was worth a shot. Plus I think the whole concept of a virtual currency is pretty rad so why not,
if it failed at least I might have educated some people about it. I guess the reason why it works
so good on 420chan is because many of their users are used to apply discrete methods. Plus they
have a much larger active userbase of course.
Aaannywaay, yes the reason why I can't use PayPal is mainly because of the site's content. I
never really feel comfortable begging for money either, I've plans to change that donate button
into a "help wanted" button which leads to a page showing different ways people can help improve
the site (by categorizing flashes and so forth). If anything I suppose I could put a mention of
donations on that page.

There might be a way for me to still accetpt BTC though while people still pay in USD using
PayPal or whatever. It's a kind of workaround and US only, but I haven't paid it much mind since
I thought noone was interested in donating anyway. Might be worth looking into after all. But
then again I'm currently hard at work (meaning lazily clicking around now and then) for a new ad
provider for the site. It's proving to be extremely hard to find one that don't have
redirections, sound, shaved statistics or just generally pay lousy.
...I hope moot will notice this thread before it disappears. I still think /f/ deserves a decent
max file size limit after all these years.

Thanks a bunch for trying. I hope the case before when you couldn't post was just because the
captcha was really hard to solve. Yes, the captcha changes eventually if you keep guessing
incorrectly, on .org there's a random chance that it will change each time you guess wrong. Must
have had bad luck if it didn't change five times in a row.
--
While I'm tripcoding anyway I might as well try to get someone of you guys interested in setting
up a mirror.
Having a "swfchanMirror" running means that you will help out hosting popular files for the site
and in return (apart from the satisfaction of improving the quality of the site) these swf files
will be delivered to your hard drive automatically. A simple way to always have new stuff to
check out when you get back home after a hard day of work.
Head on over to http://mirror.swfchan.com/ if it sounds interesting. Very simple to set up. Just
thought I'd mention it.
