I blame the person who came up with the original character designs for the hatsune miku PV that
the studio based the anime on, more than anyone. I'm about to have a bit of a rant, so if you'd
rather not read it all, skip to the tl;dr.
It feels like nowadays, people just take the easy way out and use sex appeal to sell/cater to
audiences. They dont seem to realize that character's personality and a good story with good
presentation focused less on just clothing (as in good animation/setting/etc) can make a more of
a lasting impression on people.
That is to say, one or two fan service episodes arent a bad thing, but making a whole
character/anime around sex appeal makes it boring a few episodes in IMO (HSotD was a good example
of this, since it was borderline cocktease/hentai and It got old 5 episodes in).
tl;dr- If I wanna watch anime I'll watch anime. If I want to watch hentai, Ill watch hentai.

The anime itself was awesome, and totally stupid at the same time. The action was pretty intense
and it was pretty clear it was an alternate reality where "damage" taken was superficial and
such. At the same time though the motive behind the universe was cryptic and stupid and the real
universe played out in an unrealistic black or white logic.
