  This one seems deceptively open to interpretation, like "Thought of You".
  Me, I think that once he sacrificed himself, the Death character (or demon or whoever you like)
  changed into the blue female form and made set the same curse in motion that he had with the boy.
  It's just going to be an endless sequence of deaths (a la Groundhog Day) until one sacrifices
  themselves for the other, then it switches to the other and goes on the same way.

  The story is that they're both (the girl and the boy) trying to save each other constantly. At
  the end when the girl wakes up on August 14th she says "I failed this time too...", so either
  they're trying to prevent each others death's simultaneously, or after the boy sacrifices himself
  she gets trapped in the same loop.
