Trolling is the psychological art form of using your target's own insecurities and schisms to
make them ruin their own image. There is a difference between "being an asshole on the internet"
and "being a troll", though most people have confused the two and now believe that anyone who
goes around being an asshole is a troll.
"Trolling" isn't derived from being a "troll" like the creature that hides under bridges, but is
rather more closely derived from the fishing term "trolling", in that the target is unsuspecting
of your motives and takes an initial "bait".
Trolling, when done properly, involves the most subtle stimulus to evoke the harshest reaction.
The lolcow target shouldn't even be aware that he or she is being trolled when the trolling is
occuring, as proper trolling involves some form of knowledge used by the troll that the victim is
unaware of.

Yep. Personally, I prefer a broader definition of trolling, but what you're describing is one of
the highest forms of trolling there is, no question. Really, a good troll is someone who has
excellent empathy, in that one who is able to read one's target accurately can determine
precisely which trolling techniques would be most effective, as well as what the victim's weak
spots may be.
As they say, trolling is a art.

What gives the words I write into a box and then post onto the internet any less artistic merit
than someone who writes a short poem that makes people feel good and is then sticky taped onto
the wall of a office to motive employees and is followed with the word "- Anonymous".
While trolls don't make people feel "good" they do at least make them feel a variety of emotions
that range from; Angry, frustrated, suicidal, sad.
