  Pretty sure you mistake the signals. Sirens may be used for alarming firefighters (e.g. something
  like 15 sec siren 5 sec pause in Germany). But a constant up and down swelling siren indicates
  that you better watch the fuck out. Floods, hurricane, the Russians, ...

  You could hear these often during the war over here, when Sarajevo was occupied.
  Nothing soothing in hearing this together with distant bombs going off.
  Knowing that you probably just lost another old friend, a cousin, maybe a child.

  Anyone actually played the game Siren? Its on ps2. A pretty original survival horror, and a
  unique experience. And yes, there are Sirens, but of more than one kind...
