  It's funny, I did a google ngram (or was it trends? something that makes a pretty chart) search
  for composers' names once, and there were like three distinct tiers, miles apart from one another.

  Top was naturally Mozart, Beethoven, Bach; below that, separate, was the 'I hear that name' tier
  composers, Schubert, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, etc.

  And then there was everyone else, a gulf of ignorance apart. I forgot most of them myself.
