Anime isn't actually that sad when you back up and actually look at it. Aside from the obvious
that these aren't actual people it is more intended as a cautionary tale to appreciate what you
have and to look at what's around you rather than staring off into the distance and focusing
solely on some absurd goal.
Or at least that's what I got out of it. Fate not aligning with what people actually want is an
extremely common story telling trait in Japan. Maybe I'm just too dead inside to appreciate it.
