The universe around us is not even the actual existing universe due to the finite speed of light. Everything is an illusion limited by our human perception. We struggle to find meaning because our brains evolved to search for it. "Images taken with the Spitzer Space Telescope uncovered a cloud of hot dust in the vicinity of the Pillars of Creation that one group interpreted to be a shock wave produced by a supernova. The appearance of the cloud suggests a supernova would have destroyed it 6000 years ago. Given the distance of roughly 7000 light years to the Pillars of Creation, this would mean that they have actually already been destroyed, but because of the finite speed of light, this destruction is not yet visible on Earth, but should be visible in about 1000 years" >> [_] Anon 1946714 http://htwins.net/scale2/ Updated version >> [_] Anon 1946717 >># >illusion limited by our human perception That's fucking stupid. Of course, since no one's been there, who's to say light is not traveling out there, but has struck something, and is on its return trip, 94 fucktonovabazillionmeters back this way for our eyes (or our telescopes) to see what lies beyond... goddamn... touched by Carl Sagan's ghost here. >> [_] Anon 1404475 That is the most awesome use of flash ever! it is truely mind boggling >> [_] Anon 1404477 this always makes me feel so much like a grain of sand compared to everything. Although compairing a human to everything is allot smaller than a grain of sand. And the fact that they think nothing can be smaller than a planck length just because it makes no physical sense? Awesome. >> [_] Anon 1404492 I have really enjoyed this one since the first time I found it. However, the stuff at the largest scale is quite a bit misleading. It's incorrect to think that there is one sphere of radius at about 14 giga-lightyears which refers to our observable universe and another sphere of about 100 giga-lightyears which is the estimated size of the universe. Ignoring the error that the radius of the first should be 14 giga-lightyear while the radius of the second should be about 50, the real problem is that these are the SAME thing! The error is considering that the smaller sphere represents how far "out" and "back" we can see. It doesn't. The larger sphere does. We have absolutely no way of "estimating" what's beyond this although we seem to have (somewhat debated) evidence that there likely is stuff beyond this. This "estimate" isn't the size of the total universe.
