If the chest doesn't rise readjust the head and give 1 more You never straddle the person to whom you are giving CPR. You also use the heel of your palm. Compressions should be 100 to 120BPM. Also, if you come across someone who needs CPR you should always assume that they have a spinal injury, in which case you should not open the airway by tilting the head back. There is an alternate technique that involves pushing the jaw up. New methods/research suggest that you should ONLY give rescue breaths if there is someone else should give rescue breaths after 30 compressions. Keeping the heart rate up is more important than rescue breaths as there should be enough oxygen in the blood to keep someone alive that ins't expending any energy. If the person comes to, be ready for them to puke EVERYWHERE. The more you know....
