Because, you know, they were totally going for realism.
I hate these types of animes, but it's anime. it's got artistic license. The big plumes of smoke
are mostly just to give the impact a bit more excitement.
I think back to that gif of some arab guy who gets shot, crumples down on his ass, gets shot
again in his head, and falls to his back.
That's incredibly "boring" compared to giant fucking puffs of smoke busting off of someones chest
when they get shot.
