By 2525 men may unfortunately be extinct, because the Y chromosome is shrinking and may have died
by then

Comparisons of the human and chimpanzee Y chromosomes (first published in 2005) show that the
human Y chromosome has not lost any genes since the divergence of humans and chimpanzees between
6–7 million years ago, and a scientific report in 2012 stated that only one gene had been lost
since humans diverged from the rhesus macaque 25 million years ago. These facts provide direct
evidence that the linear extrapolation model is flawed and suggest that the current human Y
chromosome is either no longer shrinking or is shrinking at a much slower rate than 4.6 genes per
million years estimated by the linear extrapolation model.

The kind of progress that the song hints at is one of a loss of humanity.
Think of Wall-E.
Earth is a shit hole.
The only humans left are fat fucks who eat and pleasure themselves all day to a point to where
they can't stand or sustain themselves anymore.
The only ones doing anything useful are robots.
I want scientific progress but fuck everything if that's our future.

>Y chromosome is shrinking
While this is a trend in mammals, it hasn't for quite some time, at least in humans. Additionally
you're going to need a much more time (1*10^7 instead of 10^3) to get any sort of genetic changes.

Science is only a tool, and is indifferent to the plight of man. If the people destroy themselves
with the help of advancement, that's not a scientific problem, so much as it is a socioeconomic
and psychological problem.
Don't blame the science: blame a culture of consumption and frivolity.

Why would I blame science?
That's like blaming McDonalds for fat people.
All I'm saying is that it can be depressing and even damning to think that everything we do today
could lead to a world like that.
We could be exploring space right now. At the very least, we could've put a human on Mars.
What kind of progress have we seen over the decades instead?
Better TVs. Better phones. Smart phones. Smart TVs.
Computers that are leagues ahead of those of 50 years ago.
I like this progress, but I don't like the priorities set for it.
Hell, I'm studying microbiology right now. I want to do so many things, but knowing this world,
society would rather have me work on pills.

The reason why we aren't at Mars yet is because the world doesn't love science enough
You get so few scientists compared to such a large population, and you also have religious and
anti-tech people slowing progress that the few scientists are trying to create
The US doesn't even test for science on their SAT, and they've got a large monopoly on foreign
scientists

I agree, but the decisions of major organizations drive progress, and most organizations are for
profit. If you want to put a human on Mars, you must first sell the idea of a human on Mars;
otherwise, psychohistorical forces, with an inertia of marketing in the favour of contented
consumerism as opposed to rapid growth.
The priorities of progress are off because the smartest people suck at PR.
