To me it seems like the car can have several states: e.g. driving straight normally, driving
straight offroad, cornering normally, drifiting (when he uses the handbrake), each associated
with a maximum speed but it can only have one at a time. The drifting state seems to allow for
full speed. So he starts drifting with the handbrake and then drives off road (or vice versa),
and he can't be slowed by being offroad, because the car is in the drifting state. Notice how he
almost never drives straight while offroad. This way he avoids lots of traffic.
