Generally, treating most mental illnesses, depression included, is really case-by-case. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)13:50 No.2230496 Im not even kidding, I was depressed, lifted weights, got a boyfriend, fucked dicks. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)13:51 No.2230497 Ya know, as meathead as that last guy was, his parting words were probably the best of the bunch. Naturally, it's not perfect, but still. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)13:55 No.2230503 >>2230497 It's useless advice in a lot of depression cases, but generally "get up and do something" can help. In my case, it doesn't. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)13:58 No.2230507 >>2230491 True. Working out still releases dopamine which makes you feel good. It lifts your mood which always helps against depression even if only for a moment. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)13:58 No.2230508 >>2230503 That one teacher kinda pissed me off, though. >"I was poor. So you have no reason to be depressed." >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)14:13 No.2230524 >>2230507 As someone with depression who's tried numerous ways to cope and ease the depression, I don't get anything out of dopamine from working out and usually feel worse because I have accomplished even less than if I had instead volunteered or did something to actually contribute to society, feeding the depression even more and feeling worse. >>2230508 The line of thinking of "people elsewhere suffer far greater than you from physical pain is kind of like the argument of "this guy with an obvious gaping wound is more severely hurt than you with the internal bleeding, since we can't see how big that wound is without expensive procedures" >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)14:19 No.2230535 Boo fucking hoo, Get a psychiatrist and stop wallowing in self pity. There's a point where you have to do SOMETHING to pull yourself out of depression. Nearly everyone feels depression at some point or another, for many reasons, for varying periods of time. It's the people that don't do anything but complain about how no one can help them that piss me off. Help yourself, get yourself started with some therapy. Fucksake. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)15:07 No.2230598 >>2230535 Nearly everyone feels depressed at some point or another. Depression is different and fuck anyone who says "JUST GET OVER IT AND FIX IT YOURSELF!" because if it was that simple people wouldn't be depressed. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)15:10 No.2230600 Make friends :D >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)15:13 No.2230603 >>2230535 > feeling depression > having depression These are two different things. Having depression is not "feeling sad". You can be sad and temporarily depressed. But this passes. Depression does not. Depression is when your rest state is deprived of energy, appetite, libido, and will. Depression is not sadness because sadness has a reason. Depression just is. > stop wallowing in self-pity > get yourself started with some therapy > implying talking about it isn't a form of therapy >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)15:25 No.2230612 >>2230598 But there is always a way to end depression. My dad rekindled an old flame and found new love after years of depression and I've never seen him happier. There is always a way. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)15:38 No.2230624 >>2230487 it's funny everytime someone believes this. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)15:40 No.2230627 meathead at the end had the best advice. not so much because SQUATS AND OATS SOLVES EVERYTHING (although it does), but because he was the only one who actually said "go out and do something, anything, and you'll feel better". even if you don't get off on the physical part of weightlifting, improving yourself and having a quantifiable way to measure progress helps a lot. it helped me. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)15:50 No.2230637 I was depressed (Well I think I may still be technically but instead of being sad I just stopped giving a fuck about my life's troubles a while ago. I am still just a lazy bum that doesn't accomplish shit but at least I don't think about killing myself that much.) but since I never tried to off myself I was labeled with mild depression by a therapist. It's kinda funny that I fail even in being a failure. >> [_] Anonymous 12/21/13(Sat)16:23 No.2230673 >>2230624 It's funny every time someone doesn't understand body chemistry |
