People want choice of weapons, specifically you can put weapons into these categories: Swords, Axes and Hammers, these are the manliest of the weapons though you can use spears, lances, pole arms, throwing weapons, ect ect but it all digresses away from the primal feeling of using it. Swords can basically fall in 2 groups: Heavy swords and light swords, example: Heavy: Claymore Light: Jian Axes? Yeah, its that simple, let em choose between a double head axe and a single head. Hammers? Heavy and light again. Heavy would be like, a maul or a bec de corbin. Light would be any form of mace. Personally? I like soft weapons-- rope dart, meteor hammer, 9 section whip, horsehair whip and urumi (though i've never even held an urumi, I like the concept)

>> [_] Anon 1489539 in the real world the only truly effective battlefield weapons for non-gunpowder battles is massed spears and bows unless you have the logistics to supply an entire army of cavalry that can use bows from horseback. for foot duels thrusting swords are best unless they have a wood or sword-breaking type of shield (spikes to trap and bend sword) in which case the best choice is usually a halberd
