You can load local Respacks with L or the button in RESOURCES tab. The simplest packs can be just
images in a zip, but they'll look better if you take the time to 2bit them.

you can use convert from imagemagick
convert nono.png -threshold 57% nono2.png

just tweak the threshold until it looks ok, or you can always fix the artifacts with paint

I've 2bitted and dithered some of the images (Yukko, Mai, Mio, Lilly, Rin and Excel as a few),
and they were done with GIMP. It has a threshold tool, and for the dithers I've used it several
times with different values on multiple layers. I then use the different layers as alpha for a
dither texture.
But that's a bit complicated, so just do a simple threshold with GIMP or ImageMagick as >>2425021
