gentlemanly shooting matches around here? Hell, in lots of Euro countries going to the military

That said, I'm pretty sure we can all agree Americans in particular shouldn't be given guns any

>Funny, your government said the same thing about you guys.
Ah, American logic. Our government can't be trusted, but it's the BESTEST GOVERNMENT IN THE
WORLD. Therefore, every other government is less trustworthy than ours, and more corrupt.
Let's just kill all the politicians, instate super-double freedom through anarchy, and lets our
constitutional right to bare weapons keep us warm at night.

It's because they're entitled. They would literally have the most horrible car accidents, all the
time, in the world if they had a constitutional right to drive cars. And people saying things
like, "Maybe people should have to register their cars and prove they can drive them first" would
be publicly derided for hating freedom.

Give me a break, you have pretty thorough cultural homogeny; if the gun-control support in the
states had any real mass, you would have actually enacted some real change about four dozen mass
shooting ago.

Actually the ironic thing is, if the right to bear arms actually served its purpose and militias
did remove the government from power, it would probably be an improvement. About four fifths of
Americans these days don't believe their gov't represents the people with their consent. One
third actively fear the government, and a (non-super) majority consider it a threat to their
rights. Only 6% rate governmental performance as excellent. (http://www.rasmussen

And yet, nothing happens despite how exactly this type of situation is ostensibly the reason why
you people should have access to all those guns. The modern situation proves the 2nd amendment
does not serve its intended purpose. You guys should just admit you like shooting and it has
nothing to do with freedom or government.

>And yet, nothing happens despite how exactly this type of situation is ostensibly the reason why

That's because the people who you need to depose with armed rebellion are also the kind of people
who think that deposing the government with armed rebellion is a good plan. The peace and justice
types want to legally remove and prosecute.
Besides, the big problem with american governance is that their general population isn't smart
enough to understand that lax regulations over the last 50-80 years has allowed private interests
to stake a claim in every level of government as well as the media, so no one actually gets
called on their ridiculous bullshit.
It's not even a conspiracy or anything so sinister. It's just a deep love of "gut feelings", and
a deep failure of critical thinking.

You have a predictable flare up of coastal liberalism and a hollowed out middle filled with
religion. I know between the Boston accent and the Southern Drawl, and from Utah Mormons to
Sanfrancisco Queers, you're all pretty convinced that you're a super diverse country, but you
definitely aren't. You've got a red team of assholes, a blue team of idiots, and a big undecided
"middle" of apathetic, uninformed zombies.
It's it's evident by how you American's teach themselves history that they aren't particularly
interested in being honest with themselves about anything.

At least one commonly cited specific purpose of the 2nd amendment is that the people cannot be
governed by a standing army. Unlike what you're somewhat implying there, unless I misread,
Republicans are less likely to trust the government. However, regardless of party affiliation,
the majority of Americans don't consider the work of this government just rule by their
representatives. So there's obviously no great lack of criticism.
Since the people are now indeed ruled by a government they don't consider just and its standing
army, the obvious conclusion is that the 2nd amendment has failed in this purpose and is now
irrelevant.

Bread and circuses, meet snack foods and internet. Unfortunately this method of rule simply
cannot function in the long term.
Right now no one really wants a revolution, we all enjoy our comfortable lives too much. Things
like plumbing, waste removal and electricity simply wouldn't be tended to in a civil war. As long
as we can survive and distract ourselves, we'll tolerate surprising amount of injustice (as long
as it doesn't happen to us personally).
But every country is three meals away from a revolution. When the poor governing decisions
threaten our food supply and people start to get hungry in large numbers, then things will get
ugly. That's when an armed populace will come in handy.
