  This scene is the finale of the movie. The children had been abducted form the town to be part of
  a ritualistic cannibal group that lived in the woods. The hillbillies shooting and stabbign the
  children were wiping out the cannibal cult.

  Also apparently they had to refilm part of the ending because the kids were having so much fun
  playing dead that they would laugh after being 'killed'.
