They got greedy. Microsoft had some backwards compatibility too. Nintendo rarely did, but to be
fair, their new consoles were almost always vastly different from their previous ones (Take the
Nintendo 64, it was vastly different from its predecessors. Backwards compatibility would have
been a bitch)
Playstation may have stopped after PS2 given they changed their operating system methods
completely, and saving didn't use memory cards any more... could have caused issues with playing
older games that would look for a method to save and couldnt find a 8, 16, or 32mb memory card,
but instead an 80-160gb hard drive.
But this is all speculation on my part. You'd have to dig deeper into it and do some research to
find the true reason. Chances are the real reason will end up being Mountain Dewitos anyway.

MFW I bought a PS3 (backwards compatible version) 4 controllers and like 3 games for 200 like a
year after it came out.

Backwards compatibility is a gimmick.
If you like your ps2, play your ps2 you fucktard.
If you like your ps4, play your ps4.
This isn't complicated.
Backwards compatibility is for PC's, which handle it poorly.
