Probably one of my least favourite Johnny Cash songs because of how overused it is. Don't step on
mothers roses is on a whole other level
Also fix your swf quality

It's only so overused because it is a sad song that just so happened to be the last one he sang.
It's still 100x better than the NIN version.

reznor's is better

Reznor himself (after he got his head out of his ass about being shown up by someone singing a
song he wrote) admits that the Cash version is a more powerful arrangement than his own.

This.
It being overused doesn't change the fact that the emotion behind his recording of it is pretty
damn real.
Most of his contemporaries died, as did his fucking wife. He was waiting for his own.
If anything it's overused because it's good.
Not liking it for just that reason is hipster-tier bullshit.
It's still hardly his best recording ever, but it's far from shit.

His wife was still alive when he recorded the song.
She died, what, three or four months after the video released though. He didn't last much longer.
All in all, it's a powerful piece of music, that goes in a completely different direction than
the original arrangement.
Also, >>2505098
Cash recorded something like 50 more individual pieces of music between his wife's death and his
own. This was just a monumental piece for him. Transcended his gospel and rockabilly roots. Was
just raw emotion.
My old man loved to listen to his Sun era recordings. I turned him on to his American series
before my old man died. Lot of memories here.
