I knew this was what you were posting. I never had this problem ever in vlc. But then again, I
don't use vlc for anime.

Even if you don't notice problems as dramatic as this, VLC improperly displays colors often and
gives you absolute shit quality compared to a more properly configured player. You should really
consider switching to something like MPC-HC if you often watch stuff on your PC.
This is a bit outdated but might help for beginners.

VLC just comes with absolutely terrible codecs is the real problem. It's just a media player,
it's only as good as the codecs you give it to use. I can use MPC-HC with the same codecs and get
just as shitty quality.
You can definitely make an argument about the ability to customize MPC-HC though.

The hips.swf is dead but as I said on there to the guy, I use MPC-HC for my animes mainly due to
the subtitle font cache shit that happens in vlc that sometimes takes like 5 years or more to
load.
If theres no subtitles i use vlc

I was using Ogg/Vorbis before it was cool. Now I've moved on to a new compression algorithm
you've never heard of.
SO HIP IT HURTS

One reason I use VLC for everything that's not subtitled

Come back when your player is compiled for 64-bit processors. Pretending that your magic codec is
better than ffmpeg's decoding when it isn't even capable of operating on a level we reached 20
years ago is shameful.

It usually isn't as dramatic, but you probably do suffer from discoloration and don't even know
it.
