I like how the whole counterargument is that it'll take forever to pirate the movie, when
anything I've pirated has finished in under 20 minutes.
I can easily kill 20 minutes, and then go right into watching the movie.
On the other hand, it's 10 minutes to the store and 10 back (no traffic), plus the time to
actually get the movie, plus the time to set it up, and all the while I am having no fun.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/17/14(Fri)12:45 No.2566260

Piracy is just the extension of the free market. You have stores that sell the product at well
above the suggested retail price (MSRP). On average, I see between $20-$30. Even if you manage to
order for online delivery, the shipping costs are enough lessen the discount of box stores. The
process for producing movies on DVD and Blu-Ray have been massively streamlined, and yet the
price remains artifically inflated. For something which all they have to do is mount a replicated
disc image onto a generic medium. They want to pretend a copying a bunch of 1s and 0s over and
over entails any cost or consumption whatsoever, they are delusional and deserve to have it
  stolen.

Additionally, with all the extra previews and ads that are loaded on, they technically get
revenue from those companies. And given that those are now programmed to play each time the DVD
is inserted, with no way to skip past it, it's continous advertising and revenue.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/17/14(Fri)13:03 No.2566272

  >>2566260
Well the prices may be artificially inflated, but then again, it doesn't mean that they deserve
  to have it stolen.

In other words, no matter how unfair the prices are, stealing (or pirating if you must) is not an
option that is somehow rightful. It is still a theft and most of us are lucky that they don't
really care about smalltimers (mainly because it would take alot of effort (and money) to punish
  everyone stealing/pirating).

Even so, let's not kid ourselves. Neither way is tehnically free. Free is when a friend hands you
an original or pirated disc and says its yours. Piracy includes the cost of: electricity from
running computer, the bandwith it takes to download (and upload if you're seeding), the cost of
the discs, subscription antivirus or technical support should you contract malware, and manual
labor that could otherwise used be used to earn income.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/17/14(Fri)13:08 No.2566277

  >>2566272
It's a theft if you operate off of the oft incorrect assumption that each and every incident of
piracy is a potential sale. Which it isn't.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/17/14(Fri)13:29 No.2566290

  >>2566277
Well perhaps you're right, every pirated copy is not a potentional sale.

But as I see it, it is their product and they should be able to decide who can and who cannot
  make copies of it.
Therefore unlicensed (or illegal as they like to put it) copies are pretty much theft.

Don't get me wrong, i am not one of these who buy every movie they want to watch and every game
they want to play, but if i like the movie/game, i don't have a problem to buy it. And if i don't
i usually have no intention of playing/watching it again, therefore i see no reason to own it.

Yes i am pretty much as bad as everyone, but damn i would be ashamed to go around and say how
they deserve to have it stolen.
