  Regardless, calling them a goblin belittles what they would be, since goblins are pretty dumb
  creatures and oni are just annoying in popular modern culture.

  tengu were mountain dwellers, so in this sense of being a demon but one no completely vile or
  evil but mischievous in nature the goblin is appropriate. There are several japanese stories
  depicting goblins that are not tengu but look much like oni. E.g. The Goblin of Adachigahara
