You have a point. Apple only spends money on marketing, not technology. However, they do make
their competition need to try harder on the technology front just to have a very clearly defined
edge against Apple.
The only downside is that a lot of companies are beginning to catch on that it's just marketing
and are responding in kind... I smell an oncoming era of technological stagnation due to
marketing.

That's kinda their whole purpose, really. If someone is fortunate enough not to break theirs,
then they can enjoy their phone slowing down just before the next one comes out. Apple
specifically tailors their updates to be optimized exclusively for their newest phones. Because
even Apple hates Apple customers.

flash files with third party software, can access non-mobile versions of sites and cost LITERALLY
