If I recall properly, this had something to do with a campaign against the slaughter of horses of
  some kind.

The guy couldn't do business with the horse anymore, and as it has a cost for maintenance he
simply kills it, the message he intends to convey is that in the end the activism didn't achieve
jackshit as for the farmers those horses are just stock and are getting killed anyway.

It is because everyone of European descendents lived with horses through the absolute worst of
times for thousands of years as we were evolving.

In actual fact, horses are more of a mans best friend than the dog is.

You can see this is pretty true when most people that never expanded out in to Europe will
happily eat dog, horse, cat and other meats since they never really interacted with them on much
  of a social level.
We domesticated a select bunch of animals and that basically made it dorfFortress_dorf_ang

I would still prefer if they used nitrogen to put things down.
Nitrogen is the absolutely most humane way to put anything down since by the time you already
noticed you felt breathless, you'd already be seconds from dying anyway.

In fact, mass killing animals like that would be even better.
Huge room full of cows for example, pump nitrogen in to it, they all fall like bricks, done.
Would be so much quicker than the usual lines where they fry their brains with the paddles.

though i honestly think there should have been a way for him to sell the horse to someone who
wanted it... but maybe that's what this is all about so meh. PETA is dumb.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)12:17 No.2576760

  >>2576751
  Nitrogen killing is trivial.
You can separate nitrogen from the air very very fucking easily.
In fact, it is cheaper than the electricity they use and the time they spend frying their brains.

As for the bullets to the head part, that is debatable. Bullets are so cheaply available that it
would probably just be easier to use that.
Admittedly you could have a person have a nitrogen container and mask to let the cow inhale it
  and just drift off.
That'd be cheaper than a gun in the long run.
Nitrogen is more potent than bullets.
In all honesty, wasting money on bullets is worse when you could whack it over the head with a
metal bat really hard and it would die instantly. Completely free after initial purchase, no
  refills require! AWE!

  >>2576754
The head can be alive for minutes after decapitation. In fact, given the size of cow brains,
  probably longer.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)12:45 No.2576773

  >>2576760
  You're correct about the whacking.
They use an impact device to handle certain slaughter house animals.
  Very cost effective.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)12:51 No.2576779

  >>2576645
The message is mute as the campaign successfully killed the future business of animal slaughter
  of this particular animal.

  Successfully, as I said earlier.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)12:52 No.2576780

  >>2576773
I'd still rather go with the nitrogen for large scale slaughtering. It would be easier and still
  pretty cost effective.

I mean, this thing is pretty good right here.
  http://www.glair.com/GN2/GN2_Main.htm
Any reasonably large place could pay that off within a couple years, if not sooner.

Smaller places would still be better off with impact or gun though. And the odd-case of an animal
being off, ill or unsuitable or inhuman to keep alive.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)13:07 No.2576793

  >>2576780
I'm under the impression; you'd want to process an animal shortly after slaughtering it.
I'm not sure how practical a large scale operation like that would be.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)13:10 No.2576794

  >>2576793
One way it could be done is a sort of large-ish linear tunnel, kind of air-tight, conveyor, a
bunch of animals come in, nitrogen'd, out they go, next lot come on.

Could be sped up massively with a parallel operation and larger room.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)13:12 No.2576797

  >>2576794
Wasn't exactly talking about the slaughtering part; the bottle neck would be how long it takes to
process the meat off the animal.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)13:14 No.2576800

  >>2576797
It'd not really take any longer.

You'd still have animals coming through, you'd just be killing them in larger numbers, cheaper
  and generally less painful.

Hell, it could probably even make jobs in the right places. Chicken harvesting would benefit from
it hugely, even though people are getting turned off from factory farming more and more.

>> [_] Anonymous 10/26/14(Sun)13:19 No.2576803

  >>2576800
I mean, look at this here.
This takes far longer than it should.
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf2ByM_NByI

All that manual work to fry their brain and get them in to position.
They get put in to position first, in fact.
Having them nitrogen chamber first would make it far less of a hassle to put them in to position
and less stress on the animals.
