you couldn't be conscripted, and the church had the most skilled physicians in the world in its
direct employ.

Am I the only one who found it kind of creepy when the revelation comes that Horo had gone
through this exact same process with other mortals hundreds or thousands of times in the past in
order to choose a mate/acolyte and that for all intents and purposes he'd basically been
completely gamed by a creature whose personality was just so unfathomably overwhelming that he
had about as much hope of resisting her as an ant has of resisting a hurricane?
I mean, she basically picked him out and forced him into everything he did for the rest of the
story, all the while making him think it was his own idea. She also comes right out and admits it
to him at one point, but by then he was just so hopelessly in love with her that he didn't care
any more. Something just seems... creepy about it.

Fuck it. He was happy, and that fact recouped everything else. Pure love (from his side at least)
