I take it to symbolize the 'give and take' that is required to maintain a healthy relationship.
The man is tired and only goes through the motions when the woman shows up.

The man starts off alone. He meets this woman who constantly seems to evade him. Through the
whole dance of their relationship, there is passion, but they're never truly together. She's not
completely there. He gets tired of chasing her. Over the course of the romance he loses his
