Lain had this amazing atmosphere and scene direction which was totally ruined by the nonsense

the idea is that like, with the advent of the internet, people are sending information to
eachother via electricity. This is likened to the human brain, which itself uses electrical
signals between many individual receptors.
The show then tries to say that this is the last stage of any advanced society, eventually they
discover the internet and, in essence, become the planet's brain. Then of course the brain needs
a consciousness, so that consciousness is 'god'.
Who is Lain.

if you watch the BD rips, it explains that everyones basically directly hooked up to a wireless
network, therefore reality is distorted heavily by peoples experiences.
it was also, like a few other interesting shows of its era, a show aimed at exploring the
implications of connecting everyone together like the internet did.
