Because aside from vowels there are no characters to represent singular letters. Japanese doesn't
account for t as having a "tee" sound when pronounced and so it is replaced with "to" (pronounces
"toh") which can be said in Japanese basically it's an attempt to rewrite the English phonetic
sounds with Japanese phonetic sounds which can be written as kana, there's no 'l' in Japanese
either hence "eru" as for "sama", "san" and "chan" those are simply honorifics. I gave a pretty
poor explanation so if you want to know more look up transliteration or Gairaigo for Japanese
specifically.
