I agree that the person in the car should hit the assailant to save their own life, but
unfortunately, there have been quite a few court cases in the US where someone ran another person
down in self-defense, and were still slapped with a manslaughter or assault charge, so people may
be too scared to attempt anything like that.

I think it depends on whether escape is a viable option. Most of the time, if you're in a car and
you have the option to run someone over, you have just as much ability to run away instead. The
key factors in deciding would be surroundings, the position of your assailant, and what sort of
weapon they're using.

However, in this case, we have a person stuck in traffic, blocked on pretty much all sides, and
unable to escape.
They are being attacked by a person with a blunt object, which potentially can break windows and
seriously injure the driver.
In this case, I would say that running over the attacker is 100% justified.
