Then somebody makes a .swf container for manga. Why. >> [_] Anonymous 04/16/15(Thu)07:25 No.2750802 >>2750788 manga reader sites are pretty dope, don't have to download shit, and can comfortably read most things. I feel like there could be a lot added to make the online reader better, interface wise, and I would assume it would be better to just design your own interface and just download the toonpages. However I think it is a lot easier to use a site and there isn't any significant drawback to quality making it a worthwhile venture >> [_] Anonymous 04/16/15(Thu)07:31 No.2750803 >>2750802 Manga reader sites are pretty shit, you must've meant. Most if not all of them are an insult to web development that could be easily fixed with anyone with an ounce of competence. Look at how imgur works for example - http://imgur.com/a/0I00D It sends you only the next image (not the entire fucking webpage) when you change page and it fucking preloads them. That saves shitloads of bandwidth and makes the reading experience *comparable* to downloaded manga, unlike on shitty manga reader sites where you have to wait for the slow-ass ad-funded servers to send you the next image ALONG WITH THE ENTIRE FUCKING WEBSITE GUI (yes, it will be cached, but fuckloads of useless http requests waste bandwidth, CPU and memory on the server) again every time you move to next page. >> [_] Anonymous 04/16/15(Thu)07:53 No.2750806 >>2750803 yeah there are downsides (that has only ever affected me on sadpanda, nowhere else) but there isn't any loss in quality, if it never loads that might be an issue, and maybe it compounds with a bad internet connection/heavy traffic, but you don't have to download anything, you can get it instantly and it is *comparable* to downloaded manga. I can read from multiple computers easily, computers with low storage, and computers that aren't mine without any hassle and if I got shit going on and I'm reading like 10 different things over a long period of time, it is easy to do as long as you remember the page number. I agree that the easiest and most hassle free way to read would be to download it, but the sacrifice for convenience is negligible (for me, and by my standards) and it seems like they're only going to get better >> [_] Anonymous 04/16/15(Thu)08:08 No.2750813 >>2750806 lol wut? Sadpanda is the only one that does a decent job on the technical side. Its usability problems (the problems you have encountered) happen because it uses P2P network to serve images. You are not getting the images from sadpanda servers, you are getting them from other users of sadpanda. That's the only reason a site of sadpanda's magnitude can exist without ridiculous operating costs. >> [_] Anonymous 04/16/15(Thu)08:09 No.2750814 >>2750806 >>2750813 cont'd. >you can get it instantly and it is *comparable* to downloaded manga No, it really isn't. If changing from a page to another takes more than 1 screen refresh, it is not instant. And guess what, your ping time to the server alone is likely going to take longer than that. And "if" mangareader sites happen to have shitty GUI (which they all do), they're nowhere near the reading experience you get with proper reader software and you have to spend a lot of extra time customizing their GUI to something less shitty with browser addon element hiding rules. A pain in the ass, really. But yeah, you're right that they're bound to get better. It's not like they could get any worse. I guess they're pretty gud if you read manga in random places rather than on your own home PCs. |
