I wouldn't say they distrust them so much as have no faith in them to get things done. There are
various reasons, but a big one is that gerrymandering has made each side's relevant voter
population so extreme that the only viable way to get reelected is to go against anything the
other side has to say, even if you would normally agree. This ends up with a lot of stalemates,
and nothing getting done.

This is the USA, we are discussing. We are the only Western nation where laws criminalizing
