Boy and girl are stuck in a temporal loop for one day, the first two verses/choruses are the boys
as he tries to stop the girl from dying. After he gets run over, it's revealed the girl is going
through the same events; if the boy dies she loops, and the other way around.

The flash is a visualization of the Buddhist concept of samsahra, the endless cycle of suffering.
Working towards a higher state (through good deeds that build up good karma) is beneficial
temporarily, but all good events will soon end. In the same way, the boy experiences the
suffering of watching his friend/lover die in life after life, each time trying different ways to
save himself, as well as her, from suffering. His works only provide temporary or illusory
benefit. The only way to escape the cycle of suffering is through nirvana, releasing your
attachment to pleasure and pain alike (which is very similar to the ideal of the Greek Stoic
philosophers.) The boy is never shown reaching the state of nirvana, demonstrating the extreme
difficulty all living beings have in reaching it.
