There are a lot of parts that are really unnecessary and often detract from it, but the good
parts are good enough to make me want to watch it.
I really hate how much fanservice there is in it, it makes it really hard for me to recommend it
to other people.

There isn't a cohesive story until the fourth season (which is confusingly titled Monogatari:
Second Season).
Monogatari regardless is very much not about the story. It's about the presentation and the
character relations. If you're looking for a story-based anime, Monogatari is very much not going
to be doing you any favors.
