while this does look cool, it is inaccurate.
during the initial moments of the explosion, the expansion rate is so high that a giant vacuum is
formed at the center of the explosion. After about half a second (depending on the size of the
blast) air moving away is violently pulled inward, then pushed out again. This principle, called
pullback, is a major component in the destructive capabilities of a nuclear weapon when used on
major cities.

which is how the blast wave is made. duh?
the inaccurate part, imho, is that the initial flash should have been shown in more than just the
windows breaking . . . the scenes look like they're close enough to the detonation for the light
and sound to be close together.

in the movie that hospital survives so its not that close. also its a small nuke. guess the sound
coming at the same time is just so that the masses will be able to understand (sound breaks the
windows, right?)

the helicopter would have kinda crushed in mid air, and would prolly have lost the rotor disk
