If you have thick enough gloves on to the point where you don't risk getting bitten then you can't really manipulate it well enough to bash it. Plus, with either bags or gloves you have to throw them out or clean them very thoroughly afterwards because rodents can carry all sorts of diseases. At the end of the day, drowning is just filling the tupperware I've already caught it in up with water, putting the lid on and letting it sit. It works for every size of rodent and I can pull it off at 3AM when I have to go to work in the morning.
