honestly I've found that once you start getting hero souls, letting it sit to farm gold is kind
of pointless. You might get a few hundred of the current level's enemies worth of gold, but
that's only going to get you a few more levels ahead, and only a handful more hero souls. It
seems like a way more efficient use of your time to just ascend as soon as advancing farther gets
hard, distribute your new souls in whatever way you deem most effective, and go again. The amount
you advance per ascension is lower that way, but you ascend so many more times that you wind up
ahead.
For example, say you got x souls last ascension. You could spend 8 hours trying to get 2 x, or
you could spend 1 hour getting 1.1 x, then 1 hour getting 1.1^2 x, then 1 hour getting 1.1^3 x,
etc. After 8 hours the second guy has about 12.5 x souls, putting him way ahead of the first guy.
