>And Desert Storm wasn't about oil
It's funny because your sarcastic point actually speaks against you somewhat. Desert Storm was
about oil, a facet of government corruption. The American Civil war was about the north
struggling to maintain control over the south's economy, a facet of government corruption.
In the case of both Desert Storm and the Civil War, a different scapegoat was given to make
people believe it wasn't about government corruption. For the civil war, slavery was that
scapegoat.

humans

I'm sorry you find it so hard to believe that people in positions of governmental power can be
corrupt and ill-intentioned, despite their overwhelming incentives for being that way.

No you fuck. It was about collecting taxes from them, that was the point. The north didn't give a
flying fuck about slavery, and neither did Lincoln. There is actual fucking historical evidence
of this as well.

the emancipation proclamation (and the rest of written history) would like a word with you.

Lincoln wrote that 3 years into the civil war. In the earlier years of the war, he specifically
said, in written form, multiple times (and not taken out of context) that he doesn't care about
the enslavement of the negroes and should like to deport them all back to africa because he hates
them.
Lincoln's father was a fucking slave catcher by trade. He wasn't raised in an environment to
where he would feel compassionate towards black people.
He started waving the anti-slavery banner because he realized he would get more popular support
that way, because being anti-slavery was becoming popular opinion by that time. He was doing it
for good publicity, like any fucking politician would. This shouldn't be fucking surprising.

The Emancipation Proclamation also specifically freed slaves in rebelling states. It stated quite
clearly that slaves residing in states that were under the control of the Union were not to be
touched.
