>> [_] Lockwert !nnIgGerRZ. 2376794 >># It split up in a lot of subgenres after the masses realized that "electronic" is not a genre, but a medium. A lot of good stuff don't even get to peoples ears because it's not "enough" to be pop. Electronic pop is just as shitty as any other pop.
>> [_] Lockwert !nnIgGerRZ. 2376796 Btw the song is Sand Wish by Infected Darude
>> [_] AdamB15 2376817 >># Alright, that was good. >># I see. Fuck, that's depressing.
>> [_] Lockwert !nnIgGerRZ. 2376823 >># But you can always do some research and find nice things from independent or sub-mainstream producers on Soundcloud and the likes. It takes a lot of work to filter the shit though.
>> [_] AdamB15 2376837 >># It's bad enough that WE have to go out and look for the good stuff, but it seems like an even more shitty situation for anyone creating music to get into. The shit gets on the radio, and makes money, while the good stuff is buried underneath the shit and sees only a little funding. Like having a cult following from some obscure movie that has no chance at a sequel while fast and the furious 24 comes out next week. It makes you wonder why get involved with it at all. Sure, they can say it's for the art, but that doesn't keep your head above water. And so you have to have a dayjob, but that seems like it's spreading yourself out too thin and you can't produce anything of value without burning yourself out. So then what? We IndieGogo everything?!
>> [_] Anon 2376842 >># >why get involved at all That's part of the fun. As hipster-sounding as it is to say, if some of the shit I liked, and probably some of the shit you liked, hit mainstream, it would become instantaneously infested and overrun with dumbshits spewing out creative "memes" they found by the millions, and it would be ruined forever. I don't give a single iota of a shit whether or not the things I listen to are well known or popular. All I care about is if I like them or not, and that's enough for me. I feel like I completely missed the point of what you said and went off about something else, but whatever. Fuck you, Disney.
>> [_] Anon 2376846 >># Consider this: if everything were good, that would be the new "standard", and everything is suddenly boring again. Sometimes, sifting through shit just makes the gems you find worth that much more.
>> [_] Lockwert !nnIgGerRZ. 2376859 >># >># >># I think we need to get to the reason why something gets popular before we engage in this discussion. I'd say the "pop" is always shifting, but any genre is capable of producing quality art and bad art. The point is: why does the current pop of any genre or medium always ends up on the lowest common denominator? I'd bring up some social and political engineering factors (welfare? lel) but I don't think it's relevant right now. And yes, if everything was good under all points of view everything would be boring, there would be no perspective. But this is not relevant since it's impossible. I believe everything has the potential to be good under the point of view it was design to appeal to. But the things that appeal the most are the absolute crappy ones, recicled milenar stuff.
>> [_] Lockwert !nnIgGerRZ. 2376862 >># >But this is not relevant since it's impossible Well it's possible in the way that plain shit seems to appel for everyone, but why? What started this trend?
>> [_] AdamB15 2376867 >># That's agreeable. Is that the "Why Heaven is shit" theory? >># Maybe a natural preference in humans for Quantity over Quality? Just like /b/, recycling is easier than making oc (and so cheaper in the price of 'time' and 'effort', and so more can be made with the same effort of making less good oc). Maybe common conformity? Everyone wants to like the same thing, which means it has to be so bland that as few people as possible will be able to have disagreeing opinions on it? Maybe it's more nefarious than that. Cynicism says subliminal messages, suggestive advertising, corporate and government influence and endorsements, carefully created personas explained and taught to the 'celebrities' themselves, ghostwriters creating all music for all 'popular artists', etc.?
>> [_] Anon 2376873 >># It's popular because the masses view it as "fun". It consists almost completely of songs about: a)drugs b)sex c)partying d)doing stupid shit because carpe diem won't fucking die e)all of the above (it's usually this, because the masses don't seem to think about anything other than these things and sports nowadays. It's all anyone wants to fucking talk about.) set to a fast tempo and riddled with a bunch of electronic bullshit that masks a lot (not all, there are pop musicians out there that are actually worth their shit) total lack of talent.
>> [_] Lockwert !nnIgGerRZ. 2376876 >># Yeah man, I believe it's something, someone, some group or just natural decay taking advantage over this natural preference for quantity. The OC subject is easily verifiable on this very board
>> [_] Lockwert !nnIgGerRZ. 2376878 >># But what changes the standard of "fun" over the decades? Do you believe it's just a natural arbitrary change or it has some sort of engineering behind it? Subversion? Auto-subversion?
>> [_] AdamB15 2376881 >># >a bunch of electronic bullshit that masks shit-quality talent FUCKING AUTOTUNE
>> [_] Anon 2376882 >># >"Why Heaven is shit" theory No, not really. If we're literally talking about Heaven, I would assume that once you're there, whatever things that make getting sad/bored/etc a thing just go away and happiness is all that you feel, but I've never been there, so I don't have any concrete knowledge to base Heaven physics off of. As for my view point, that's pretty much my view point on "why there are bad things in the world" or "why does God allow bad things to happen" kind of questioning. Without bad shit, good shit becomes meaningless. Would finding someone who truly loves you be worth anything if you didn't have to work your ass off to find them? Would their love mean anything if they had no other choice but to love you? Would finding all of the good songs be as satisfying if you didn't have to endure so many shitty artists to get them?
