  Well, not really, but snakes take a big risk every time they lash out... snake jaws aren't solid,
  and their fangs are only connected to their skulls by ligaments. Each thing a snake bites
  requires them to carefully calculate the amount of force to use to pierce the hide and inject
  their venom without unhinging their faces in all kinds of painful ways, and overestimating the
  force required is much worse for the snake than underestimating it.
