It also strikes me as a reference to Snow Crash - that the world we see 'Maki' in is a digital construct. The billboards only come alive when she approaches the balcony, as if she had created the city as a portfolio to her work, and when she 'resets' the landscape to a more natural one via the 'bomb', the city towers pixelate and fade out. Even her 'avatar' undergoes a brief change, going from human to something else, before the world resets. So, while you are correct in your statement that the video is metaphorically symbolic of leaving one's old life behind and seeking out a new life and new possibilities, I also take from it that one needs to be the catalyst of such a change and that one can find peace and balance in nature's beauty. The video might also be suggesting people can be unhappy living solely in the 'digital world' and that one should always make time for oneself. |
