Charlie Chaplin was a Socialist, and this speech is the core expression of his personal beliefs.
He wanted to say something important since this would be the first movie he ever spoke in. It was
also his last movie because the US Government blacklisted him for being communist after this
speech.

Isn't tone important though? The point of a speech is to take a point you wish to express and get
it out there, hopefully in a manner that is convincing enough to have the listeners agree with
you. A well-written speech can convince people with just text, but even a mediocre speech has the
potential to convince the audience if the speaker is good because at the end of the day, it's
usually pretty obvious what message a speech is attempting to convey.
