Maybe it went over my head, but it seems like he just used a bunch of descriptive technology related terms to vaguely describe modern life and made them rhyme. No real point was made. Aside from it being entertaining to listen to, that is.

>> [_] Anon 2690397 What the fuck? I kept watching it and waiting for the punchline. But there was no punchline, it's just meaningless regurgitation of buzzwords and sayings. I think the joke is supposed to be about how modern life has no meaning or something, but when you've lost track of which sayings ARE modern anymore then I think you've lost the right to try and criticise any of it. How the fuck is this comedy?
>> [_] Anon 2690399 >># ;-;7 RIP >># He's having fun with the language, you superfaggot.
>> [_] Anon 2690400 >># >when you've lost track of which sayings ARE modern anymore then I think you've lost the right to try and criticise any of it. Are you really going to criticize a guy who died six years ago in his 70s because some of the language he used in something he wrote ten years ago isn't modern anymore?
>> [_] Anon 2690406 >># Not everything needs to be condensed into a single, easy to digest punchline for it to be humorous you fucking moron.

>> [_] Anon 2690426 thanks a lot OP, i didnt know this
>> [_] Anon 2690430 it's funny because he's old and he is using advanced words. and you have to like it because he is dead, so if you say anything negative about him you are a poophead.
>> [_] Anon 2690433 >># Man, the joke went so far over your head it just bombed ISIS. Holy shit I got a sentence captcha. Google are really going all out.
>> [_] Anon 2690436 garbage dont post this again
>> [_] Anon 2690467 >all these tears What's the matter, wordplay and poetry too advanced for you?
>> [_] Anon 2690472 >># I was just wondering, don't you have an extra copy of newspeak dictionary?
>> [_] Anon 2690478 >># you don't get George Carlin, you're too young
>> [_] Anon 2690526 top kekkers at the buttmad in this thread, calm down kiddies. You need to stop harping on everyone who speaks anything but praise or good things about him in this thread. Why don't you learn about what comedy actually means, maybe research it a bit instead of taking it as granted as stupid shit that you watch on your shitty youtube clips. George Carlin was just another hack who thought he was some sort of counter-culture prophet by making such profound statements such as "Man, humans suck, dude." and "Religion is bullshit, amirite?" and "Them corporations keepin' us down!" You cannot get even more edgier than this. And by the way, this particular sketch isn't comedy as much as it's an attempt at poetry. He often had these moments where he'd start some awful melodramatic rhetoric in the middle of his show as if he imagined himself to be in a theatre play or something, it's rather pathetic actually.
>> [_] Anon 2690528 Second, the majority of his prose is a plethora of appeals to linguistics, emotional responses and just a simple "holy shit I can't believe he actually remembered all those words" kind of reaction, so there's nothing quite so elaborated, clever or impressive about it aside from the fact that it is mildly entertaining, just like the rest of his routines. Meanwhile actual comedians are engaging in observation and reflection, but none of them (save Dylan Moran, Monty Python, and maybe Demetri Martin) actually attempt to engage with humanities' intellectual heritage on any fundamental level. For the past half of the century most comedians are seeing comedy as very grungy, working class, if not completely anti-intellectual, and it does not have to be that way. But until there's the masses of plebbies like you defending it, I guess that will never change.
>> [_] Anon 2690533 >># >># Underrated post
>> [_] Anon 2690538 >># >># >good thing are good only when I think they are good >I am the herald of good comedy, leave your inferior opinions on the footsteps of my cathedral
>> [_] Anon 2690540 POST!
>> [_] Anon 2690541 >># >oh no they have actually provided concise arguments against my stupidity >I know! Just cry out "muh opinions", that'll show them! Time and effort is the only difference here. Just like you'd be told to lurk more on a board you're not familiar with, you should lurk more before you judge what is and what isn't heralded as good comedy.
>> [_] Anon 2690545 well that was just boring.
>> [_] Anon 2690546 >># Or perhaps Carlin was and still is a respected comedian. Maybe you might not enjoy his particular style, but that doesn't negate his influence on comedy. Your post is basically undermining his style based on gross oversimplification and the pretense that his set of skills doesn't matter. >Second, the majority of his prose is a plethora of appeals to linguistics, emotional responses How are these irrelevant to good comedy? These are basically the building blocks of standup. >Meanwhile actual comedians are engaging in observation and reflection He didn't? You specifically said he thought of himself as some "counter-culture prophet" > none of them actually attempt to engage with humanities' intellectual heritage on any fundamental level Do these words have any meaning beyond blatant pseudo-intellectualism? An authority on good comedy you're not, kid. Your opinion is as good as anyone else's, so don't try to pass it off as gospel.
>> [_] Anon 2690563 >># Yes, such as the classics, four naked men. The height of comedy. Pfft piss off. Recent /f/ has been filled with the worst, shittiest children. I'd be surprised if most of them even had an internet connection before 2010.

>> [_] Anon 2589416 I think this is the only time I have ever found George Carlin to be entertaining. I still have never found him to be funny.
>> [_] Anon 2589440 George Carlin is one of my very few idols. The reason to this is his way of thinking, and the extreme sarcasm that is being put out.
