I drive for a living and while I don't completely disagree, maddox fails to recognize a few
things:
1) Cyclists are by far the most inconsiderate demographic on the road. They will deliberately
obstruct traffic. They will run red lights, dart into busy intersections and flip off anyone who
has to slam on their brakes to avoid killing them. Most of the cyclists I run into who are
obstructing traffic will go out of their way to prevent cars from passing them. Cyclists have a
hard time on the road, sure, but this gives them a chip on their shoulder that makes them feel
entitled to inconvenience every motorist as much as they possibly can.
2) People who are on bikes would *not* necessarily be in a car otherwise. Almost every cyclist
I've ever talked to does it as an alternative to *walking,* not driving, because a bike trip is a
lot closer to pedestrian range than it is to car trip range. My city recently turned a lot of
roads in town into one-way streets in order to add bike lanes and bike rental kiosks. There was a
boom in cycling but local businesses suffered so much from the giant spike in traffic that the
city converted them back and moved all the kiosks.

This right here. Also, cyclists usually ride on road margins. Those margins don't exist for the
sake of cyclists, they exist so that motorists can escape to safety in case of danger. If some
idiot is making a dangerous bypass and you end up with him heading straight at you, your only
chance is to pull the car to the margins. If you end up running over those cyclists that weren't
supposed to be there you are held accountable for their death.

need to pedal as fast as they can while plowing through pedestrians.
Some poor bastard broke his leg last semester getting hit by one of those bycycle riding pieces
of shit.

It goes both ways, though. Pedestrians have a habit of walking on cycling lanes right next to
sidewalks, and very rarely bat an eye over their shoulder before deciding they need to cross a
cycling lane.
